It seems like the ideal career doesn’t it? Travelling the world and getting paid to do it, sounds
easy to most of us, but is it all it’s cracked up to be?
I don’t think there is anyone in the world who doesn’t like to travel. We all love that summer
holiday after a long year of working, where we give ourselves a well-deserved rest while
exploring somewhere new. Travelling is also a way for us to escape our lives for a while and
maybe learn more about ourselves along the way.
Content Creation and the world of ‘influencers’ is not a new concept, but in the last number of
years has took the world by storm. Travel content is my personal favourite. I love consuming
content where I get to see people travel to new places and do extraordinary things, all while
giving the best tips and tricks, from what to pack in your suitcase to recommendations of
restaurants and things to do.
I had a chat with Laura Barton, a travel blogger and content creator who earns her living by
travelling the world and making content to advise her audience on the most beautiful places
and the best things to do. Laura not only focuses on places outside of Ireland, but also has a
whole series across her social media channels where she tells us about the best places to travel
to in Ireland. She has found some hidden gems and extraordinary locations along the way on
our little island, and has definitely proved to me that we don’t always need to spend a lot of
money to experience the world’s beauty.
Laura had a terrible accident back in 2019, which left her learning how to walk again. However,
this didn’t stop her from combining her passion for travel with content creation, making a
career out of it.
Laura began by telling me about her accident, and how she became a content creator full time.
We went on to chat about both the highs and lows of the industry, and Laura gives her advice
for anyone who wants to build their own career in Content Creation too.
After my chat with Laura, it made me wonder where people like to travel to and their own
experiences with travel. I asked the students of Ballyfermot College what their favourite place
to travel to is, and I got a great response of places both across the pond and close to home.
In my view, travel definitely helps improve our mental wellbeing.
Travel helps me to shut off from my busy life, and just enjoy being away from it for a little while. It allows me to also reflect on my life and the things I am grateful for, and maybe areas of my life that I need to make changes to.
I encourage anyone who wants to travel to just go for it. Money can be made again, but
memories and experiences are priceless.
