The stories that help us

Mind Over Media is the first stop on your journey towards working on your wellbeing and mental health.

Together, we have worked to craft a place to seek the best advice and insights on the workings of the inner mind, as well as being a destination to keep up to date with the latest news and current affairs, along with several analytical writings on specialist topics from experts in their field.

We have carefully selected our chosen categories, Wellbeing, Entertainment, Lifestyle and Sports, that we feel are the best representation of how we attribute news and media to our mindfulness.

Combined is a team of twelve hard-working individuals, with broadcasting and journalistic integrity and morals, aiming to demonstrate our capabilities and talents as writers, reporters, editors and above all else, professional journalists and broadcasters.

Whether it’s doctrinaire articles on our health, such as the importance of sleep or the effects of body dysmorphia on mental health, podcasts on crafting the perfect demo for radio stations or the benefit of films to our mental state, or, simply, the latest news, headlines and reports, like the honouring of Irish animator, Richard Baneham, in a US-Ireland alliance or the appointment of Irish Rugby coach, Andy Farrell, to manage the British and Irish Lions Squad, no topic is too small or broad to be discussed and written about.

It has been a long, but enjoyable process toward putting this website together, for all of us and now, we hope that it can be something of substance to you, as you work to improve your everyday life and conditioning, physical, mental or otherwise, of which we anticipate we will be of some help to you, in the long run.

These are the stories that help us and we can’t wait for you to join us!

Amanda Fitzgerald – Leader

My name is Amanda Fitzgerald. I am a 2nd year radio programming and production student in Ballyfermot College of Further Education. I have a real passion for radio production, and I love to challenge myself and both inform and entertain people in a creative way.

My role is to lead the team in creating a professional product. This involves checking in with the members of my team regularly and making sure everyone is ok. I ensure all the content being produced is related to the project’s aim. I make sure we meet all our deadlines, and that anyone who is not complying with the agreement we have set out is spoken to and if needed, an arrangement being made for them.

Ryan Kelly – Project Manager

I’m Ryan Kelly, currently in my second year of radio programming and production in Ballyfermot College of Further Education. Radio is something I have always wanted to be a part of and I’m hoping I can use the skills I’ve gained through my studies to be a productive and reliable person in the industry. I try to focus on attention to detail in my work and aim to complete tasks as soon as possible.

I oversee the handling of the project. This involves creating a planner for the team that allows everyone to view their tasks to do, tasks that are currently being worked on and tasks that have been completed. Additionally, I work closely with the editors of the website, helping them to set up a shared email address in which the team can send content to, for inspection and review. Above all else, if something is to go wrong, e.g. if the editors cannot access the website’s editorial email address, I have the relevant tools and resources to solve the problem and ensure that the project and team are able to output content at an appropriate and steady pace.

Michaela Culliton – Tech Manager

My role is to organise the website. This is done by creating a domain, organising articles and audio pieces on the website, sorting out cookies and comments for the website to prevent bots from using the site. Once an editor has approved of an article or a piece of audio, they send it to the tech manager’s email, and it is then uploaded on to the site.

Rory McGinn – Tech Manager

My role is to edit and code certain aspects of the website, so it appears professional and that it works how it is intended to. We also maintain the website, so it runs smoothly and has up to date articles, pictures and any changes that have been requested by the team.

I sub edit the articles so they fit with the websites style and liaise with the team and lecturer to make sure that each story has a picture, sub heading and any extra details such as quotes highlightes.

Sean McDonough – Editor

Hi, I am Sean McDonough, a mature student, studying radio presentation and production here at BCFE. I have a huge interest in radio and have since I was very young. I have worked as a DJ in many of the nightclubs around Dublin and the pirate radio stations in the eighties. I have presented programmes on RTE 2FM and worked with Larry Gogan on his golden hour which was a huge programme with a huge listenership. I have also done voice-overs for advertisements, corporate brochures and jingles for radio.

My role is to edit all the podcasts to ensure that they are of broadcast quality and edit out any mistakes, gaps and repetitive words, and to make and ensure a good flow of the podcast. I communicate with the podcaster to see how we can make the podcast even better and use Adobe Audition in this process as well as Adobe voice enhancer.

David Earley – Editor

My name is Dave Earley. I am a  2nd year radio student. I hope to apply for a Sound Recording / Music course for the next academic session. My long-term ambition is to be a professional songwriter.

My role in this project was to write and submit articles ( 8), and to edit, review and give feedback for some of the radio student’s work before sending them on to the tech managers.

Abbie Murphy – Editor

My name is Abbie Murphy and I am a second year Journalism and Media student. I love to write about pop culture and entertainment. Hope you enjoy!!

My role is to edit written pieces for the website. I edit four pieces of work every month. I am sent the work via our editors email, edit it, and send the work onto the tech team.

Ben Lynch – Editor

My role as editor is to edit written pieces of work that has been done for the website. The editing team then sends their edited content on to the tech team, who publish the work on the website.

Robyn Maxwell – Designer

My name is Robyn Maxwell. I’m a journalism and content creation student. I love to be creative and am dedicated to my work.

Brian Waters – Designer

My role is to design the website making sure all images fit and look appealing to the article and to make sure the website is as appealing and fitting as possible.

Romey Farrelly – Marketing

My name is Romey. I am a second year student studying Radio Production. I work in the social media and marketing section of Mind Over Media. I also write articles and create audio to go hand in hand with these articles for the Mind Over Media Website.

My role in marketing is to promote the website on our social media planforms that we have created to suit the theme of the website and to be pleasing to the eye to pull viewers in. The social media platforms that we use are Instagram and Facebook to ensure that we reach both target audiences, as many young people use Instagram and the older generation commonly use Facebook. The main goal is to promote the website by sharing posts and stories across our social media platforms to reach the maximum views that we can achieve to create more viewers for the website. We aim to achieve this by encouraging people to like and share the posts. We also kicked off the website by going around the college with QR codes and getting people to follow our social media pages through the QR codes.

Aine Gillen – Marketing

My role is to inform the public that the website is going live. I use our social media platforms to promote the website and the content available on the site. On our Instagram, for example, updates about the site are posted. My main goal is to ensure people know about the site, where it is and give frequent updates when articles are posted.
